This is why the national skills agency – Skills Development Scotland (SDS) – is launching the very first Scottish Career Week which will run from 15-19 November.

Through a range of events, activities and resources, Scottish Careers Week will encourage people of all ages to shape the future, while highlighting the support available across Scotland to help support choices positive.

Among the events available offering support is a free six-part webinar series based on the popular Positive Steps to Your Future career manual, which is open to adults of all ages.

Hosted by expert guidance counselors from SDS, all who join will be guided through each topic to understand how they can make positive changes in their professional lives while learning about other supports available from SDS.

Themes explored include how to cope with and embrace change as the first step towards progress; identify your skills, strengths and accomplishments; explore your options and put a plan in place; where to find opportunities for a targeted approach to job search; create engaging content for your CVs and cover letters; and how to prepare effectively for interviews.

Each webinar lasts up to an hour and questions can be asked throughout each session.

For parents, Monday November 15th will see the launch of Scotland’s most important parenting events, hosted by Developing the Young Workforce, giving parents, guardians and guardians the chance to hear about what matters to them in this moment.

The launch event at 7 p.m. on Monday features key information on careers, jobs, pathways, skills and the Scottish Youth Guarantee. The event also focuses on young people with additional support needs through our partner Enable Scotland.

The launch event will also offer information about the Scottish careers service provided by SDS and how the Youth Workforce Development brings the program to life through employer experiences in schools.

This is all rolled into a 30-minute event available to watch through Developper the Young Workforce’s social media channels, and will be followed by a series of more local events and activities throughout the week, as well as other information on social media.

Employers across Scotland can also get involved and find out more about the support available so they can attract and develop the skills they need.

On Tuesday morning, the Scottish Chambers of Commerce host their Shape the Future event, giving businesses the chance to hear about the benefits of joining the Young Person’s Guarantee; the latest news on employer support available through the National Training Transition Fund; and details of the MCR Pathways National Mentorship Program.

Public sector and healthcare employers can also learn more about the Youth Guarantee at a conference hosted on Wednesday by Sandy Begbie, CEO of Scottish Financial Enterprise and Chairman of the Youth Guarantee.

The event will feature a panel discussion with young people from industry alongside Jamie Hepburn, Minister of Higher and Higher Education, Youth Employment and Training.

Other events are also available, giving everyone the chance to experience how the Scottish Career Guidance Service can help them shape the future.

Digital Start Fund offers a new path to jobs in the digital sector

TRAINING to access a range of jobs in the Scottish digital sector is now available through the latest phase of the Digital Start Fund.

People facing unemployment or low income can apply for a grant of between £ 1,000 and £ 8,000 to cover training in software development, cybersecurity and other digital areas.

The fund is now in its third year, with over 350 people trained since its launch in 2019. The training is funded by the Scottish Government and administered by Skills Development Scotland (SDS).
