Boat The Foundation offers a free online boating safety course.

If you were born on or after January 1, 1993, you must obtain a boating safety certificate to operate a power boat in New York State. The age requirements will increase each year until motorized operators of all ages are required to have a certificate from January 1, 2025.

In addition, anyone of any age must obtain a Boater Safety Certificate to operate a personal motorized watercraft, such as a JetSki.

Information about the BoatU.S program. are available at www.boatus.org/newyork. New York State regulations are available at https://parks.ny.gov/recreation/boating/education.aspx.
