SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Americans are expected to spend over $ 10 billion on Halloween this year, which is a record. If spending a lot of money on costumes isn’t part of your family’s budget, there are plenty of thrift stores in the Springfield area to check out.

“It’s a really exciting time for both customers and us,” said Carlene Mayberry, manager of Goodwill on Kansas Expressway.

According to Mayberry, the store is preparing for Halloween all year round.

“When we finish in October, we start saving for the next year throughout the year. As we put on our usual merchandise, we think, “Can this be Harry Potter?” Can this be Cruella, ”Mayberry said.

Mayberry said they are releasing around 300 costumes a day from their donations, leaving plenty of options for families on a budget.

“So you could put together an outfit for three kids and yourself for less than $ 30. So we are really proud of it. It gives our employees a very good feeling. You can let your creativity run wild. Whatever you want to be, we’ve got something to make it happen for you, ”Mayberry said.
