NEW YORK — A new video shows a man being brutally attacked with a brick in Harlem.

The victim is expected to be fine, but the search for suspects continues.

Police say it started when he accused a woman of stealing packages from his home.

Surveillance video shows the suspect came from behind and beat the 60-year-old victim with a brick – so badly he fell to the ground. The suspect then continues to hit the victim while he is down.

The woman can be seen yelling at the victim, with a second man as backup.

” Go on. Is it serious? I mean really? said Harlem resident Carmen Cruz, who couldn’t believe her eyes. “Why does everyone have to hurt people? And with a brick? Who does that?”

This all happened around 3 p.m. last Thursday at the corner of West 132nd Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.

Neighbors said the accused woman should have handled the situation differently, especially if she is innocent.

“Ignore it. ‘I didn’t, prove it.’ End of story,” Ward Turco said.

“If you didn’t steal the packages, then why are you trying so hard to try to attack this person?” said Anthony Lanier. “I feel like violence like that is not the solution. Now she’s going to get in trouble, face charges.”

NYPD data shows felony assaults are up 7.4% in the area and 19.1% citywide. Many worry about violence.

“The result: the violence has increased, the physical violence,” said one woman.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477)or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782)). You can also submit a tip via their website or via DM on Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
